Ads of the previous millenium

Inspired by Ferrari's post on old ads, here are the things that I remembered from my days in Madras:

A-one cleaning powder...pathirangal pallapallaka, kannadi peengangal minnu minnuka, A-one Cleaning Powder.

Saravana Stores...Eversilver, pithalai, nagai...T.Nagar Usman Road (Kilaigal illai).

Sabena, Sabena...

Boost is the secret of my energy...our energy.

Sila Vishayame...nammidame, sila vishasheme...nammidame...(I think it is the Cadbury's ad)

Chick, chick, chick - Chicklets.

Tagline of Lifebouy was "Lifebuoy evvidamo arogyam avvidamme."

Raski rasna Rasna, rasna.

Thumbs up, taste the thunder (Thufani Thanda).

Cutticura talc...sloosy loosy or something like that.

Kadaikarare, antha voodhuvathi thanga...Edhu Ma? Ellathukkum mela irruke, adhu! Cycle brand agarabathigalai kettu vangungal!

Onida...Neighbors Envy, owners pride.

Solidaire for sports, solidaire for sunday movie, solidaire, solidaire....we want, we want true colors, we want, we want true sound, we know what we want, we want solidaire...solidaire!

Utterly Butterly Delicious...Amul.

Hmph, hero vayule ore natham...Arr Sugantha pakku..Thamboolam sirakka ARR.

Hmmm Ayyasami, ore natham...something like that (for Khaitan fan).

...Rathna stores, siva complex.

Suzuki Shogun, the boss.

Maan Mark kudaigal, maan mark kudaigal.

Britannia, britannia, britannia marie. Ting ting ti-ting.

Do you remember anything else?

All those ads are familiar, but the Solidaire one - it's so annoyingly catchy, I still remember it. Especially as one of the dancers in the ad was a friend of mine! :)

"The loooks of a winner"...Nice one!

Oh really! So you know a Celeb Journo, an actress,...Romba periya aalunu sollunga :-)

Yeah brings back a lot of memories.

I remember it distinctly because I overwrote my dad's audio tape with something else and that particular place had this Cutticura Talc ad, so I had to recreate this Cutticura talc ad with my own voice :-)

There was this annoying ad for a washing ended with a Japanese guy mouthing the words "I am taking it with me to Japan".

Plus an Asian Paints ad based around the Pongal festival, with no words, just music (I think AR Rahman's score) and also another ad for Leo Coffee (featured Arvind Swamy I think) again set to music by AR Rahman. Couple of ads in those days that got the meaning across without words.

Then there was this Palmolive ka jawaab nahin (which also inspired a few amateurish jokes), Pan Paraag Pan Masala Pan Paraag..

Sorry for being late with a suggestion: not so nostalgic - but very memorable TV advert in UK from recent years - ad for Puegot 206 car - which also circulated on Internet and became a real hit. You can view it at:

Nth Dimension,
Thats Videocon. The Asian pain ads were getting better ad better every Pongal season.

Yeah pretty strong scent too.
Le Sancy, thats right. I remember them. Those things indeed lasted for quite a while.
Murphy TV? Havent heard of them or remember them. Dyanora, yes.
MCC bank ad was nice.
Most of them should be around that age group, I think.

Adhu romba kadi jokku pa! :-)

Adhu en "Palmolive da"nnu sollaranganu (instead of Palmolive ka) innaiya varaikkum ennuku theriyadhu :-)

In that case, I must apologize for replying late too :-)
Yeah I remember seeing that ad, very cool ad.

That was quite instinctive of me. You are right, the minute you said dancer, the assumed it was a female :-)

Otel Saravana Bhavan has a catchy tune to it too.

The Last Blogger,
I enjoyed it, as much as many other bloggers, thoroughly.
